About the universal case research center

The Case Method of teaching in higher education management programs has helped students & teachers to achieve learning objectives along with performing higher students & teachers to achieve learning objectives along with achieving higher student engagement. Management educators and corporate trainers find it difficult to source appropriate case studies on emerging sectors & emerging complex businesses which are available among the current portfolio of publishers or are limited due to huge cost implications.

To establish an industry-academia partnership and address a growing demand for case research and instructive material, UBS has established "Universal Case Research Centre", a not-for-profit initiative.

CASE WRITING WORKSHOP

OBJECTIVES OF THE CASE WRITING WORKSHOP

The primary objective of this case writing workshop is to train the high potential faculty/researchers on case writing methodology and help them develop confidence & skills necessary for writing quality case studies that can be used in classrooms. This workshop is also an endeavour to establish a case writing culture in Indian B-Schools.

Participants of this workshop will be able to:

• Approach business houses for collaborating on case writing.
• Collect data and facts for writing the case
• Structure a case study
• Write a real-life case on a business problem
• Prepare to teach notes for a case
• Publish a case study

Day to day agenda 

Day 1: 

• Understand the barrier and benefits in Case study writing 
• Garner the skills of a case writer 
• Get acquainted with Case study Writing Process
• Knowhow on different types of case studies 
• How to conduct Case Interview 
• Case study & Teaching Notes, Structure, Dos and Don'ts

Day 2:

• Assignment of writing at least one case study & teaching note and forward it for review. Incorporate suggestions to complete the case ready to use/ send for publication

Day 3: 

• Reflection of Case study writing assignment 
• Select participants will have an opportunity to conduct their case 
• Discussions on points of improvement 
• Awareness regarding common pitfalls of case development 
• Get acquainted of case study publications/distribution steps 
• Learning process that include aligning Case study wring projects with Program Objectives / Course Objectives (PO/CO)
• Case study for management research, problem-solving, testing hypotheses & teaching/training

CERTIFICATION

A certificate will be provided to all the candidates after the successful completion of the workshop. Attendance is compulsory.

• 

  Prof. Richard McCracken has been the Director of The Case Centre since March 2008. He oversees The Case Centre's global operations from our UK office.
  Richard regularly represents the case community at conferences, workshops and competitions as both a speaker and moderator. Richard is also on the judging panels for The Case Centre's annual case method awards and competitions and EFMD's case writing competitions.
  A keen writer, Richard blogs about the world of case-based management education.
  

  Professional experience
  Prior to joining The Case Centre, Richard was Head of Intellectual Property at the Open University (OU). During his time at the OU Richard was instrumental in the development and launch of the OpenLearn initiative, which makes educational resources from OU courses freely available worldwide via the Internet. Richard was also a member of the senior management team responsible for negotiating and managing the University's unique relationship with the BBC.

  Education

  Richard holds degrees in English Literature (University of Sheffield) and Law (Open University), and a postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law (University of London).

  Alkis Thrassou holds a Ph.D. from the University of Leeds (UK) and is Professor at the University of Nicosia (Cyprus, EU). He is the managing, associate or guest editor of many prestigious journals and books, and published numerous works on Management/Strategic/Marketing. He is also a chartered member of CIM(UK), RICS(UK) and CIOB(UK) and a consultant to the industry.

  Dr. Nimit Gupta is a seasoned academician with 18 years of diverse experience in teaching, research and consultancy. He is Harvard Trained and Philip Kotler Certified marketing professional. He is a prolific case writer and advocate of case pedagogy. He is recipient of several scholastic performance awards including Best Case Award: Case Centre (USA), Best Case Writing Mentor- Katastasi, Excellence in Research Award: DIAS, MATES- Best Faculty Awardee, Salam Delhi Excellence in Education Awardee, ECONS Award for Outstanding Contribution in Higher Education, etc.

  Mr. Tarundeep Anand is the Chairman of Universal Business School. He is an entrepreneur with an MBA from SP Jain Institute of Management; Executive Education from Michigan B-School (USA); Tuck B-School (USA) & IE B-School (Spain). He is the Ex-MD, South Asia & Member Innovation Board, Thomson Reuters. He is a faculty of Innovation & Creativity, and Strategic Management.

  Prof. Ketan Gandhi is the founder of KgGuruji Consulting services and comes with over 28 years industry experience having worked with companies like Suzlon where he was the business head handling revenues of Rs.1,500 Crores. Starting with a basic engineering degree, Mr Gandhi has done his Executive education program with Harvard and IIM Ahmedabad. He is a certified case writer and published cases in IIM's and IVEY Business School.

  Mr. Munawwar Ahmed heads the MBSC Case Center at the Prince Mohammad Bin Salman College of Business & Entrepreneurship. He is responsible for setting up of the 1st Case Center in Saudi Arabia with an ever-growing repository of 100+ cases – the most prominent global collection in the Kingdom – and he had launched the Middle East’s 1st Case-Dissemination Platform. He has authored, co-authored, supervised and reviewed 150+ cases on startups, entrepreneurship and governance, and has trained 50+ writers worldwide. He sits on the Advisory Board for the newly established Case Research Centre at UBS and recently founded an educational startup in India. Previously he served as the Head of Research at the Case Study Centre and Amity University, Dubai to Faculty of Management Sciences and Curriculum Developer. With 17+ years of combined experience, his strengths include Research, Strategy and People Management.

  He is the second UAE-based Winner of the prestigious 2017 EFMD Case Writing Competition under the “MENA Business Case” category and was Nominated for the 2018 version of the competition in the same category. In 2020, his case on Sustainable Fashion was voted among the Best 10 Cases in Europe
