Our beloved Chairman Gurdip Singh Anand, worked across multiple continents and managed billion dollar businesses across his professional career. He was as much at ease dealing with Swiss, Dutch, British, American top executives as dealing with the tough Indian labour unions or bureaucrats. His managerial acumen and expertise allowed him to effortlessly work across multiple industries during his life time, like Oil & Gas, Pharmaceuticals, Air-Conditioning, Industrial Projects, Music, Software, Hardware, Security Services and Bottled Water. Even though he was a world class management professional, his first love was teaching and he spent every weekend for over 35 years teaching and mentoring students at leading b-schools like JBIMS (his alma mater), SPJIMR, NMIMS and SIMSR. As a Management Consultant, he trained corporate CEO’s and Top Management from the leading MNC’s and Indian conglomerates from the Tata Group to Mahindra Group and even left his impact on the Indian Army and the Indian Navy.
In 2008, he decided that Mumbai needs a world class residential business school. Toward this endeavour, he sacrificed all his earnings over the decades to build Universal Business School where he selflessly worked for over a decade to establish it into the Top 5 B-schools in Mumbai without even taking a single rupee as salary. He was a voracious reader and a fabulous and captivating Professor. Students loved him and he gained the distinction of being called a ‘Superman’ by the students of SPJIMR. He played sports with the UBS students and would sing and dance with them even at 75 years of age and would compete enthusiastically with them.
He followed the most ethical values, was extremely passionate about saving the planet by protecting the environment and practiced giving through a number of CSR projects. Thus he laid the foundation of UBS and we will always follow in his footsteps

Towards ensuring that the Universal Business School has a strong interface with Industry, we have established ‘The UBS Senate’, with a membership of fifty CEOs, Directors and Vice Presidents / Functional Heads. The Senate will meet two times every year, to review our academic processes and teaching pedagogy. The object is to ensure that the curriculum adopted for our Courses, meets the requirements of Industry. This will ensure that the competencies imparted by us to our students, have complete relevance to the needs of the prospective employers. This will also help our students to better succeed in their assignments, which they will get after the completion of their academic year. Leadership in Action will be exercised in several ways at Universal. Student Teams will play leading roles during School Events and undertake Academic Projects, Assignments and Case Studies. Other Student Teams will support the governance of several areas of Business School operations. These processes will ensure that our students have multiple opportunities of working and collaborating with their peers, faculty and the school management team. We will inculcate amongst the Student leaders the ethos: “WHEN GIVEN COMMAND, TAKE CHARGE AND DO WHAT IS RIGHT”.
Our ‘Leadership in Action Workshops’ will bring high profile senior academic, business, social and political leaders to our institute. This will ensure, that our students will have several direct interactions with leadership, from different fields.
The Indian Institute of Leadership Development, which is being set-up at our campus, will train managers from leading Corporates, in the fine art and science of leadership development. Our students, will have access to these Workshops and benefit enormously from the high quality of debate & dialogue, which will ensue during these prestigious events. These learnings will go a long way in enhancing the leadership competencies, of participating managers, as well as, our students. Progressively, we expect to attract managers from across the globe, to be attracted to these Leadership Development events.
